Vernon Williams

Vernon Williams, Jr was born on June 25, 1960 to the late Vernon Williams, Sr and Juanita Christine Williams.  Vernon, affectionately known as “COOCHIE PAP” was raised in South Florida, where he lived and migrated between Coconut Grove, Perrine, Richmond Heights, Florida City and Homestead.  He attended Coconut Grove Elementary, Ponce Middle and Miami Killian Senior High. As a child he always had a palate and appetite for various types of foods which resulted in his career choice of becoming a short order cook, chef and executive chef.  Vernon’s love of cooking has taken his self-proclaimed “gifted cooking hands” from the smallest and coolest dives and diners to the finest restaurants and luxury resort fine dining establishments. On the highest of high notes, Vernon was in the process of transitioning from employee to Owner/Operator. he was scheduled to open his very own dining establishment on September 6, 2022. A dream deferred on earth will be a delight for many in heaven, Bon Appetit!  In addition to his love for food and cooking, he was an avid lover of the ocean and all things water, swimming, boating, and fishing, dubbing himself the “Black Jacques Cousteau.” Once he became a father, there was nothing that he loved more than his children and grandchildren. His children were the essence of all things that brought him immeasurable joy!

If asked COOCHIE would tell you that life is simple, “my kids, my family, eating and cooking, fishing and the Miami Dolphins, who needs anything else?” Above all things, COOCHIE loved family and friends and greeted everyone with open arms for the biggest and warmest hugs and a flash of that “Colgate Smile.”  We will never forget that big hearty laugh and fun-loving personality that brought a wave of undeniable energy into any room he entered. 

This doting son, father, brother, nephew, uncle and cousin leaves to mourn and forever celebrate his life, a host of loving family members and friends and loving companion Yolanda Young.  He was preceded in death by his wife and grandson, Eveline Roberts and Amir Kanarie Khalil Stubbs. His legacy remains omnipresent through his children, Tiffany Waring (Randy), Vernon D. Williams (Heather) Tavaris Stubbs, Nicole Williams, Vernishia Stubbs, Cherika McDowell, Vernard Stubbs, Laverne Williams, Vernon Williams, Jr., Chevis Stubbs, Vernon L. Williams, Vernon Williams (P-Nut), Verniya Williams, Vershiya Williams, Vernon Williams (Hercules) Vertashia Williams, and Vershard Williams along with twenty-four grandchildren. Siblings left to mourn Vernon’s passing are Lola Battle, Vivian Tundstall (Walter), Cammie Thomas (Margaret), Frank Brown (April), Debra Franklin (Doug), Owedia Williams, Tarlesha Williams Smith (Marc), Vincent Williams (Kiandra), Vernell Williams, Samantha Jordan, and Santreal James. Uncles and aunts include Uncle Donald Williams, Aunt Glora Brown, and Aunt Michelle Brown. 

Within the last couple of years, Vernon rededicated his life to Christ. We can all rest assured that his initial introduction to Christ at Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church in Coconut Grove, Florida (where his maternal grandfather, Frank Freeman Brown was a Founding Member) was etched deep enough in his memory that he knew when and how to travel back down that road to give himself back to God.  Many heartfelt thanks to Full Deliverance Baptist Church, Florida City, Florida, for receiving Vernon in worship and pastoral care as he reconnected with Christ on his renewed journey.
