Remembering Sherry “Sweet Mama” Griffin
Sherry Lanet Griffin, affectionately known to all as Sweet Mama, was born February 29, 1952. The oldest daughter of the late Moses and Shirley Brown in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Sherry was educated in the Broward County Public Schools, a 1970 graduate of Dillard High School. While attending Dillard High School, Sherry was a majorette for their magnificent marching band. To know Sherry was to truly love her. Every individual she encountered became more than just a friend, they were family. Everybody knew SWEET MAMA. That unique voice, beautiful smile, vibrant personality, and crazy laugh would brighten anyone’s day. Sherry’s precious memories will be cherished by her sons: Jonathan Stephens (Gwen Stephens) and Chauncey Griffin; Grandchildren: Tracy Edwards Jr., Ariana and Jadon Stephens, Deandre Cunningham, Karissa and Lisa Griffin; Great-Grandchildren: Zariana Westley, Dacia Edwards, Nova McKnight, Nylah and David Clyburn Jr., Raelynn and Deandre Cunningham Jr.; Sisters: Theresa Mobley and Cicely Suggs; Aunt: Camille Stephens; Nieces: Yolanda Daley, N’Cyontia Saintil, and Destane’ Henry; Nephews: Andra and A.D. Hampton III; and a Huge host of Great(Great-Great) Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and close friends. Preceding her in death, Husband: Broadway Griffin; Daughter, Dacia Griffin Edwards; Granddaughter, Niarie Stephens; Sister, Rhonda Brown Parker; Both Maternal and Paternal Grandparents, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
