Rebecca Brunson

On June 1st, 1930, God graced this world with Rebecca Brunson, Born to the late Mr. Pless and Mrs. Lily Cummings in Sally, South Carolina. She late met and married her longtime sweetheart Mr. Alonzo Brunson Sr. To this union they gave birth to 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. She later moved to Fort Lauderdale Florida with her family where she resided for many years. Rebecca worked for the City of Fort Lauderdale for 10 years of dedicated service, where she retired in 1984. Mrs. Brunson was known to many as “Becky” and Mother to many children in the neighborhood. She would nurse their wounds and always intervene when there were children having a disagreement, she would make them hug and make up to keep the peace. She also had lots of love for her animals as well as she loved to go fishing. Rebecca was a member of Springfield missionary Baptist Church, where the Isom Ross pastored. She sang in the choir and lead worship and bible study. After retiring she decided to sell the home and move to Georgia with her husband to live out their retirement. Though her health was failing a little she never gave up and was always in good spirits. There she joined St Luke Baptist church where she continued to do what she loved and that was singing in the choir and praising God. Rebecca and her husband took care of each with the help of her two sons, until her husband was called to his final resting place in 2017. She kept pushing even though she missed him dearly. She then moved back to Fort Lauderdale with her two daughters to care for her until her passing.  Mrs. Rebecca Brunson leaves to mourn, Her sons Robert Brunson Sr. (Deloris) of Savanna GA, James Brunson Sr late (Evelyn) of Ludowici ,GA and Alonzo Brunson Jr (Thelma) of Lauderdale  FL and 2  daughters Cathy Brunson-McNeal and Brenda Brunson. Grandchildren (late)Robert Jr. ( Jan’ice), Latasha(James), (late)Theodore(Kia), Lakia, Bridgett (Benderrick), Jamie(Lavon) Shanitrice, Albert, James Jr. ,(late) William. Jarvis and Jarita(Philip), Lakesha(William), Crystal(Brandon), Dana, (late)Belinda(Kendall). 53 Great grandchildren and 19 Great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and her God daughter Tina. Mrs. Brunson siblings all preceded her in death, sisters Ellen Harrison(late) of New York, Clareen German(late) of Glenville, GA , and Carrie Lee(late) of Jesup , GA. brothers Lewis cummings(late) Concord north Carolina , Coley Cummings and Purnell Cummings.
