Debra was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 25, 1959. She was the second child born to Sarah Lee Johnson and the late Charles Johnson. Debra attended and graduated from Kensington High School in Philadelphia, PA and attended Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was baptized at an early age at Rome Emmanuel Baptist church under the late Reverend Wright Miller and she lived everyday of her life spreading word of God.
Throughout the years, her love for God grew and brought her a child who meant the world to her. Her daughter, Shamika Lynn Johnson- Dorvil (“Chicky” as she loved to call her), was her greatest gifts and best friend (Peanut butter and Jelly as close family called them). During her journey of love, in 1993 she met and fell in love with Emmauel (Manny). Together they accomplished many things and enjoyed their time together, especially spending time with family. Their love continued to grow and blossom into a beautiful union, where their hearts became one in 1995. As everything in life, she put God first in her union and in her ministry.
Debra (Debbie to everyone who knew her) was a good person who helped anyone in need. Debbie had a great rapport with all her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and associates. She poured love and God’s word into everyone she came across. She served on the youth choir at Rome Emmanuel Baptist church, went to schooling and became an Evangelist serving the Fifth Avenue Temple. Throughout her time with the ministry, she served on the Missionary Board, Praise and Worship Team, head of the youth department, and was the church secretary.
Debra was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Mattie Mouzone (maternal) and Ada Bell Johnson (paternal); her father, Charles Johnson Sr.; her brother, Willie James Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Sarah Lee Johnson; her husband, Emmanuel Padilla; her daughter, Shamika Johnson- Dorvil; son-in-law; Johnny Dorvil (affectionately known as Daddy Jay); stepdaughters, Nicole Zanbrana, Monique Padilla- Ace, and Chrissy Padilla; stepson, Emmanuel Padilla, Jr.; her mother-in-law, Ana Alameda; her brother, Charles Johnson Jr.; her sister, Valerie Weary; sister-in-law, Crystal Davenport; a host of brothers and sisters through marriage; granddaughters, Damirah Johnson and Jenez Green; grandsons, Zahir Johnson, Avery Johnson- Dorvil, Johnathan Dorvil, Jayshaun Dorvil, Jareik Dorvil, Jatavies Dorvil, and Jalawrence Dorvil., and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family/friends.
